Final 10 Second Film

Comp 1 ae 720p from Merry Eady on Vimeo.

To finish off my 10 second film I edited the colour saturation and light levels to make the film darker. By changing the images like this I felt that it linked better with the style and theme I was going for and fitted better with the music I had chosen. I used several layers of altering the colours and saturation to make the film more effective and portrayed the ideas I was trying to get at.

Overall I like how my final 10 second film has turned out. I feel that by added and altering colours at the end really finalised the film and effectively showed the tension and density I was trying to achieve. If I were to change anything, I would alter the images slightly and use ones where they link better together rather than ones I thought were a pretty image.

10 Second Video In Development

Comp 1 720p from Merry Eady on Vimeo.

This next video I did a lot of cleaning up with the images I used to make sure that the images were appearing at the correct place and on the beat of the music. These were just a few adjustments that I had to do before I went on to add another layer onto the video to add texture and excitement.

To make the images flow better when changing I used a fading technique.  By doing this you click on each layer and change the opacity to 0% and click where you want it to start to fade on the timeline layer, then click where you want it to finish fading and change the opacity to 100%. I still wanted the changing of the images to be sharp so I only faded it very slightly and for not very long so that it was a bit smoother but still have that sharp punch when it came up to the beat of the music.

When watching the video you see spots of black that appear every so often, this gave it an old film effect in the video. By making this effect I went onto a website that held short movies of film effects like lightening or and old fashioned film effect. I then downloaded the file and put it up into my project in After Effects. Once I had done this I then had to turn the video so that it would overlay over the whole 10 second film, giving it a faded look on it.

Moodboards

The next week of the Physical Studio class I had collected a series of images I found off the internet that I felt were related to my story and create a series of mood boards. The mood boards all hold different images that are related to the story I have looked at and have created. I started off with simple and normal images such as the crocodile and the village its held in. However I thought that it looked too bright and happy so I then proceeded to look at images in labs and zombie like images of people and animals. I thought that by looking and researching images like that it would give the darker tone I was looking for in the story.

Marilyn Monroe Illustrator

On the second week of the Adobe Creative Suite classes I used Illustrator to re-create a digital version of Marilyn Monroe.  The image I have shown is the image I was tracing to create my own drawing of Marilyn Monroe. I had the image under my drawing so that I was able to trace of the image to try and get an accurate drawing.

I drew it by using anchors to create shapes on illustrator so that I was then able to make a rough outline of her face and then hair, slowly building her face up. When I got to the eyelashes and the eyebrows I had to use a stroke so that it would make that thick curved line without having to make a shape so delicate to fill in. I really liked this way of working because it meant that I could accurately draw shapes and fill in a colour to make the image look like Marilyn Monroe. However, it was very time-consuming and I felt that I had to re-do a lot of the more detailed parts because it wasn't as easy to get them to look exactly curved in the right places and trying to make it look natural on the face.

I like to constantly see the difference between the original image and my drawing of Marilyn Monroe so that I could compare and alter the parts that I feel don't look as much like her as I would want.

Light Bulb

To create the light build I found a high quality picture of a light bulb and did the same for the tree. I then cleaned the inside of the light bulb using the clone stamp tool to erase any parts of the bulb that I felt needed erasing. This allowed me to copy around the surrounding parts of the bulb and redraw them over the parts that had a falter within the bulb. Once I had done that I then got the tree and placed it inside the bulb. However, it still didn't look right within the bulb so I copied the tree again but changing its position and warping it so that it looks the a reflection within the inside of the bulb of the tree. I used the opacity to change the brightness of the tree to it looked more like reflection. I did this on both the top and the bottom of the bulb. I then brightened some parts of the flection and tried to darken others making it reflect better against bulb.
