Adapting and Surviving
Showreel 2 720p from Merry Eady on Vimeo.
This is the final showreel has the surviving and adapting the other way around. I felt that by making this adjustment really has finalised my showreel and it makes the text make more sense. I like how my showreel has turned out, however, I feel that my time management hasn't been so great which has limited me in how well I can create it. Also due to certain circumstances I wasn't able to out other pieces of my work within the video. I do feel that the meaning behind the title of my showreel links both previous projects well together and make the video as a whole look dark and mysterious.

Surviving is Adapting
Showreel from Merry Eady on Vimeo.
This was the first final edit I rendered. I used a mixture of my final two projects from City in Flux and Earth and Artifacts. I mixed it up a little to create a new video, I thought that by doing this it would create a new and interesting showreel showing my last two projects. I also wanted to add wording into it connecting the two projects together. The first sample video says Surviving is Adapting. This is connecting the two project together by having to survive through natural disasters and you have to adapt when there is a decaying city.

Typography
This is some typography research for my showreel. I want to add a little bit of text within my showreel video, so by looking at different variations for ideas on what typography I can use within my showreel will help me come to a decision. I really like the top typography because I feel that it is interesting, unique and controlling, which could contrast well with the wildness of the footage within the video.

Postmodernism
Postmodernism shattered established ideas about style and brought a radical freedom to art and design. At its height in the 1980s, postmodern designers such as the Memphis group, Alessi and Arad, contributed to the New Wave: a few thrilling years when image was everything. The term postmodernism has been applied to a host of movements, mainly in art, music, and literature, that reacted against tendencies in modernism, and are typically marked by revival of historical elements and techniques.
Postmodernism is used highly within the animation field. Quite often you see tendencies of animated characters talking to the audience or the narrator. This gives a childish idea within the animation. Interpretation within animation and postmodernism animation is used often, by films such like ‘Shrek’, where they consistently quote other films within the current film from other fairytales. This cane give multiple interpretations within the movie and can be fun for children to watch and adults. These childish tendencies can give many postmodernism ideas that can be used within my own work.

Modernism
The modernism art movement consists of cultural changes and trends that arose at a wide scale in western society in the late 19th and earth 20th centuries. The rapid growth of cities influenced the development of modernism. An important aspect of modernism is how it relate to tradition through adoption of techniques. Modernism refers to the broad movement in Western art, architecture and design which self-consciously rejected the past as a model for the art of the present, and placed an emphasis on formal qualities within artworks and processes and materials. Modernism proposes new forms of art on the grounds that these are more appropriate to the present time.

Texture Experimenting
This version of experimentation looks more like a rock, I used a different colour to create a rockish shade. To do this I used one of my own photo's as a base colour and used bumps to add effect on the colour. I then used displacement to change the shape of the sphere, I feel that the choice of shape figure is extremely interesting and looks more effective and rock like. The colours and tones of the sphere really make it look realistic.

Texture Experimenting
Still using Cinema 4D, I tried to create more effects using different texture techniques. I feel that by doing this I am getting a better idea with how my volcano can look and using a better technique for this will help me develop my understanding of how I can create certain textures. I like how the spikes come out and give a darker feeling with the shape.

Volcano
I altered the texture of the volcano again and placed it in a different angle to make it look far more interesting.

Texture Sphere
So I decided to look more into C4D and what I could create out of it. I decided that it would be a good idea to experiment with different textures I could put on the shape to see what textures would be most effective for a volcano. I like how this technique deforms the shape and create an effective bumpy edge to it.

Play-dough Volcano
Here I have started to create my own miniature figure of a volcano using play-dough. I feel that by doing this it gives an interesting way I could create a volcanic eruption while filming it, allowing me to alter the colour saturation and adapt it to make it look better. I used Food colouring to change the colour of the play-dough but the colour didn't come out the way I wanted it to so I've decided to paint over the top using colours that I feel would be effective to make a realistic volcano.

C4D Volcano
To look into another way I could create a volcano I decided to experiment with Cinema 4D. Here you can see the development of my work as I progress in trying to create an effective shape for a volcano.
In the final image of the volcano I used a colour texture to try and make the volcano look more realistic. By doing this I was able to get an idea of what colours I could use for my own made volcano I'm doing using play-dough to make it look better when I get around to filming it.

Yannik F
2014 RF C4D Q R&D T7b from Yannik F on Vimeo.
I am extremely inspired by Yannik F's work. They have been using Cinema 4D to create a collision of an object which is so simple but looks fascinating.
